The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a block grant program under which the federal government gives states and other jurisdictions annual grants to operate home energy assistance programs. It is a federally funded program to help eligible low-income households meet their home heating and/or cooling needs.
The federal government does not send or accept applications for LIHEAP assistance. You must contact your state agency or Indian tribal organization for information on qualifying for assistance. Information and assistance can be obtained from the following:
