Hoekstra Responds to Governor Granholm’s State of the State Address

Hoekstra Pursues Federal Initiatives to Help Michigan Economy Rebound

Washington, Feb 3 -

U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, today responded to the State of the State address by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm.

“Michigan’s congressional leaders must actively participate in enabling Michigan’s economy to succeed and rebound from its current crisis. I intend to continue my efforts to create greater flexibility in how states can allocate federal transportation, education and job training funds during times of economic distress. I also will continue the fight to end the preferential treatment in government contracting for federal prison-produced goods that has contributed to unemployment in Michigan.

“I think that it is unlikely that the agenda outlined by the governor will significantly improve the job and economic climate in Michigan. I am hopeful that the governor and the legislature will eventually make the decisions necessary to carry out the basic functions of governing, and also the more difficult decisions necessary to turn the state around.”
