Shelby Native Begins Fall Internship with Rep. Pete Hoekstra

Washington, Sep 17 -

Shelby native Alexandra Walborn will spend 15 weeks of the fall semester interning in the Washington, D.C. office of U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland.

"There are so many rich and rewarding experiences of interning in Washington D.C.," Hoekstra said. "I trust Alex will meet and exceed our expectations while she is here, and that she will learn valuable skills that will benefit her in years to come."

Having come from a conservative background, Walborn is excited to be working on issues such as protecting the parent-child relationship against international law and government intrusion. Her primary responsibilities include conducting research, responding to the questions and concerns of constituents, and assisting congressional staff members with various projects. She will also be expected to provide tours of the Capitol building for constituents visiting D.C.

Walborn is the daughter of Warren and Karen Walborn of Shelby. Upon completion of her internship she will return to Brigham Young University Idaho in January of 2010 to begin her junior year in the pursuit of a bachelor of arts degree in English.

"I have always been interested in learning how the federal government operates," Walborn said. "The opportunity that has presented itself for me to assist Congressman Hoekstra at such a significant time in our nation’s history will be an experience that will undoubtedly benefit my future endeavors."
