Matt Stone

Washington, Jul 6, 2009 - For 10 weeks this summer Hillsdale College student and Hudsonville native Matt Stone will intern in the Washington, D.C. office of U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland.

"Interning in Washington D.C. offers many rewards for ambitious young people," Hoekstra said. "I welcome Matt’s positive attitude, and I hope that he enjoys all that Washington has to offer."

Stone’s primary responsibility has been assisting congressional staffers with a constitutional amendment protecting the rights of American parents against international law and government intrusion. As a homeschooled graduate, Stone is excited to work on a specific issue that he strongly supports on a personal level. Other duties include conducting research, responding to constituent questions and assisting members of the staff in various projects in the office.

Stone will begin his senior year in the fall at Hillsdale College pursuing a degree in American Studies. He is the son of Tom and Michele Stone of Hudsonville.

"I am excited at the opportunity to learn and grow from the experience of interning in Washington, D.C.," Stone said. "Working for Congressman Hoekstra is a great opportunity to further my education and growth as a person for my future."
